Rosauro Ricalde Balitaan
August 16, 1953 – October 7, 2016

After a 7 month battle with cancer on Friday, October 7, 2016 Rosauro “Ross” Ricalde Balitaan passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit at the age of 63.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 40 years Anselma ‘Elma”, daughters Rosselle (Paulo) and Vanessa (Saifa) and 5 grandchildren Cyerra, Ross Jr., Colin, Noah and Nikko. He has 3 sisters Ophelia, Rizalina and Chona in the Philippines and California and numerous extended family, friends and relatives in Canada, the US and the Philippines. He is predeceased by his parents Emiliano and Amparo Balitaan and eldest sister Belen Salazar.

Ross was born on August 16, 1953 in Batangas, Philippines. He married Elma on May 1, 1976. He immigrated to Canada in 1978 and worked as an electro-plater at the House of Silver for 33 years before retiring. He enjoyed fishing and was enthusiastic about music. He jammed on the guitar, bass and piano with his friends only knowing how to play by ear. But his passion in life was his family. He loved to cook and always enjoyed having dinner together.

Thank you to the staff at Carmen Hospital in Carmen,MB, CancerCare Victoria hospital, Unit GB3 and GH4 at the Health Sciences Centre, and the Palliative Unit at the St. Boniface Hospital for the care and support they gave to Ross and his family.

The family wishes to extend their love and gratitude to Mar, Fely, Iris, Isabelo, Fresnie and the entire Cadiz, Mercado, Solitario, Maglayo, Cantada, Cabaltera and Magsino families, Nachampassak family, Lucy and Nanding Garcia and numerous extended family, friends and relatives for their endless love and support.

Lamay/Viewing will be held on Thursday, October 13 and Friday, October 14 at 6:00pm at Mosaic Funeral Chapel 1839 Inkster Blvd. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 17 at 10:00am at St. Edward’s Catholic Church 836 Arlington Street. Interment in Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Avenue. Reception to follow at the Mosaic Reception Centre, 1839 Inkster Blvd.
